Life's Journey

What is Development? What does it mean to Grow? What are some ways I can make life meaningful?

We are born with a body, some amount of development occurs, and we leave this life with the effects of the choices and experiences we have gained. We have these elements in common with every other creature with which we share this planet.

"Development is a continuous process from neonatal to adulthood. Though the growth ceases after adolescence, adolescence is not the end for development. Each developmental stage has a new set of challenges and opportunities." (National Library of Medicine explains about human development and also how growth and development are influenced by a combination of genetic, nutritional, and environmental factors.) Erikson's stages of psychosocial development explains eight checkpoint phases the great majority of us go through throughout our lifetime. My observational experience has left me wondering if individuals with developmental delays and disabilities have their own unique ordering for learning life's lessons.

Disability or not, Here is some Wisdom of the Ages:

In this video, then 81-year old Thomas S. Monson (1927-2018), shares some of what he has observed about life and what is truly important. Monson was a US WWII Naval Veteran. He earned several honorary Doctorate degrees including in business and the humanities. He was involved in and earned exemplary service awards from Boy Scouts of America. He married, raised three children, and celebrated 64 years of marriage with his best friend when his wife Frances graduated from this life.
